Investing in the next generation is one of the most important investments we make at Telemus. That’s why our team recently joined forces to support Detroit students by raising funds and donating supplies to No Fear Café. The Detroit-based co-learning space serves children and adults, providing a safe place for students to learn about science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

“No Fear Café provides hours of free programming each month and offers free consultations,” says the organization’s website. “[Our] work elevates the community’s economic, environmental, and social well-being by promoting academic excellence, professional development, and upward mobility.”

The Telemus team first held a fundraiser where the winner received a special modern Israeli dinner experience featuring the culinary skills of financial life advisor and chef Michael Ran. Funds that were raised were used to purchase a long wish list of art and school supplies for No Fear Café’s students.

“There’s a need and we have the resources,” said Michael Couck, Director of People and Places. “We want to reach out and help those in need in our community. It’s about investing in that talent and in the next generation.”

Detroit native Alicia McKay founded No Fear Cafe. She attended Rice University and started her education career as a math tutor. She later worked in the Detroit charter school system, creating workshops, lessons, and creative curriculum.

“Alicia knows from experience that all students are capable of achieving greatness when given clear and uncompromising goals,” says the program’s website.

Alicia met with members of the Telemus team to personally thank us when we dropped off the supplies in mid-October. It is truly rewarding to know we’re able to come together and make a positive impact for bright, hardworking students.
A sign on the wall at No Fear Café said it all: “Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up.”

Thank you to all of the Telemus team members who participated!
