At Telemus, we’re passionate about teaching financial literacy to young people and helping provide the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success. We also love to help spark interest in future careers in the financial industry. With that in mind, Telemus is proud to once again participate in and sponsor Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan’s Stock Market Challenge, underway now through the end of the November.

The Stock Market Challenge is a technology-based simulation of the stock market. Every 60 seconds represents a day of trading. Teams are given $100,000 and descriptions of more than two dozen fictitious stocks which they use to create the portfolio of their choice. High school students participate and get to experience the stock market firsthand alongside experts like us.

“It’s very exciting to be part of the JA Stock Market Challenge. We’ve been provided access to a robust and professional-level trading platform that really helps students learn about markets and trading,” said Financial Life Advisor Trever Helmstead. “Being in the business of investing, I was surprised by how easy it is to place a trade along with helpful hints and points of research offered along the way.”

Junior Achievement's mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. After 60 simulated days on the market, the three teams with the highest portfolio net worth win gift cards, trophies and bragging rights.

“Learning all things in one’s financial life are important, but particularly investments,” adds Financial Life Advisor Andrew Hambleton. “In my experience working with the younger generation, those who learn about investments at a young age are more apt to spend less on frivolous good and are more likely to save through investments.”

We’ll keep you posted on how the challenge progresses, but one thing’s for sure – investing in the long-term success of young people is part of our winning strategy that will pay dividends for decades to come.
