Telemus Supports Humble Design

‘Home” took on a whole new meaning during COVID-19. Many of us are working from home. Our children have attended school at home. It’s a place where we’ve exercised, live-streamed services, celebrated occasions, and at times, quarantined to stay safe.

With that in mind, the Telemus team supported Humble Design for the holidays, a nonprofit organization that custom designs and fully furnishes home interiors for individuals, families and veterans emerging from homelessness. They’ve furnished more than 2,200 homes since 2009.

“Entering housing is an important step in the journey out of homelessness, but not enough to solve the problem,” says the organization’s website. “Half of those who enter housing return to shelters within a year. Humble design ends the revolving door of homelessness by creating homes where families can find peace, strength, and hope.”
Our team purchased more than a dozen dressers and nightstands, and donated new or gently used home goods including, TVs, microwaves, paintings, bath towels, blankets, sheets, comforters, coffee makers, toys, lamps and more.

“We planned to assemble the dressers and nightstands at the office, but a surge in COVID cases caused us to cancel the in-person event,” said Telemus Brand Experience Manager, Tracy Almassy. “We were disappointed we couldn’t work as a team to build the furniture, but we’re looking forward to future volunteer opportunities with Humble Design.”

Because of the urgent need, Humble Design picked up the dressers, nightstands and donated items immediately. The furniture will be assembled on-site at various homes.

“It’s humbling to know these items are helping create a warm, safe place for families in need to start over,” Tracy added. “A place of belonging and new beginnings – and we played a part.”
