Telemus Rising Star Johannah Schiffer Wins Crain’s Excellence in HR Award

    | March 16, 2022

Johannah joined the Telemus team in 2014. She received a Crain’s Excellence in HR award in the ‘Employee Experience’ category for her outstanding work strengthening our company culture and consistently increasing employee engagement.

Investing in our people and maximizing their potential ultimately helps us enrich the lives of the clients we serve. Our Director of People and Places, Johannah Schiffer, is leading the way. Johannah manages Human Resources functions at Telemus including recruiting and retention, employee development, performance management, compensation, benefits and more. She’s among the first-ever group of Excellence in HR Award winners being honored by Crain’s Detroit Business. Johanna was selected for the importance of her work in driving our business success and we couldn’t be more proud.

“Johannah has been a rockstar for our organization,” says Telemus Partner and Senior Financial Life Advisor Josh Levine. “She established processes and procedures, instituted a brand enrichment team and completely revamped the employee experience. Employees are excited to come to work each day… this is in large part due to Johannah’s relentless pursuit of an incredible employee experience.”

Johannah brought 15 years of HR expertise to the Telemus team. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan and previously held HR positions across a wide spectrum of companies from startups to multi-national brands including Hyatt Hotels, Groupon and Pet Supplies Plus.

“Enriching the lives of our clients starts with enriching the lives of our employees,” Schiffer says. “We looked at our organizational structure and put people in roles where they could excel. We also established ‘town hall’ company meetings, ‘chomp and chat’ team lunches, and launched an intranet to enhance internal communications.”

In addition, Johannah organized a brand enrichment team, a cross-functional group of employees that visits other brands from Starbucks to Zingerman’s to Shinola – to learn about best practices and help strengthen our brand. She is currently overseeing the construction of our newly updated office space, coming soon.

“At Telemus we sit at a roundtable where everyone’s contributions are valued and individual and collective efforts impact company success,” Schiffer says.

Please join us in congratulating Johannah for this well-deserved recognition. She will be honored during a ceremony August 8 at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham. You can read more from Crain’s about Johannah’s award by clicking here.

This Excellence in HR Award is presented by Crain’s Business Detroit. In creating this award, Crain’s sought to recognize HR leaders who worked closely with other C-suite executives to deliver on a company’s strategic goals. Crain’s looked for measurable outcomes, such as reduced turnover, cost savings and a quantifiably improved employee experience. Applicants completed an application form detailing how their work contributed to the success of the business, providing specific and measurable examples. Winners were selected from application forms by a panel of Crain’s editors and experienced HR professional judges. Winners did not pay a fee to apply.
